As I mentioned in “EVE Online and Side Projects,” I had started working on a Slackware build — and well, it’s time for an update on that project.
I’ve officially moved beyond VM testing and started prepping for real hardware. It was a nightmare to find a machine of the proper size; in the end, I ended up getting a small 2-in-1 laptop at the recommendation of the Slackware Discord server.
I’m also currently using it whenever inspiration strikes for writing projects, such as MADNESS.WIKI or any of my blogs.
Oh right, I haven’t even talked about MADNESS.WIKI yet — it’s a site I created as part of my Slackware project and as a hub for philosophy, after the site Toy Soldiers Untied went under.
I ended up creating a custom i3WM user interface. I don’t really use the tablet mode of my new machine, but it’s perfect for typing up articles or works on public transit, trains, planes, or anywhere else an idea needs to be captured.
I plan to do another update later on, after I’ve used the machine a bit more, but I’m happy to say the Slackware project is slowly moving forward. Getting it to work on real hardware will be amazing.
Until next time
