What I’ve Learned Building Plus Sized Op-Ed Site

I’ve launched Flab.BLOG, a plus-size musing site currently featuring five authors. Now that I’ve got the site working (somewhat), I figured I’d write this article to share what I had to work on and consider while building the site from the ground up. Currently the site is still in maintenance mode until I finish setting up the themes and everything that is required for running the site but I feel the site should be live very shortly.

First, I had to choose a good backend option. Initially, I wanted to use Ghost, but due to the cost during this early stage, I decided to go with WordPress—at least until I start generating some revenue to cover hosting fees.

Right now, I’m working on things like finding a well-maintained theme, learning how SEO works, and tackling many features I never thought I’d need to understand.

It’s actually been a lot of fun learning all these tools—even diving into how to build a custom theme from scratch for a fourth project I haven’t fully revealed yet.

My goal is to get everything running smoothly. At the moment, we have five published articles, three more ready to go, and another eleven in the pipeline—ranging from being edited to waiting on images.

I have high hopes for the site and the project as a whole. I just really wanted to share this update with my readers so they know what the hell is going on.
