With the issue of Apple dropping support for Intel very soon I am left pissed off; I mean I used to be a proud developer and would release on all platforms but with the iron grip Tim Cook got on the mobile space I am left pissed off.
I mean really pissed off; with macOS Sequoia [15] it’s system requirements have the final generation of Intel chips as it’s bare minimum but really pushes for people to use the M1/Apple Silicon chips as a bare minimum.
While yes, I could the $1095 USD and get a MacBook Air for code signing and light dev work, is it really worth it? I know there is the slightly cheaper Mac Mini, but that’s its own issue to me, as I don’t want to have to deal with things like a KVM switch or some other nightmare just to swap between desktop to the Mini.
What’s truly annoying about all this isn’t the price, but it’s the principal of the matter; Apple what happened to you.
I remember the era of the Mid-2012 unibody MacBook Pro’s those bastards could be upgraded like there was no tomorrow and were basically the ThinkPad X230, those machines you could modify and really create something amazing with them.
Hell I was still rocking my X230 it literary was falling apart from being my go-to laptop for heading up to co-locations or just doing my daily tasks on the move.
I am not sure what I am going to do as Apple basically has a majority of hold on phones.
Should I hold onto my standards and not pay the blood sucking tick that is Apple more money? Should I spend my own money to buy a M1/M2 or M3 MacBook? Do I buy one if someone pays me to develop for it [As it stands, I’ve sign code for the next few years]?
If anyone wants to throw me some cash to just say fuck it and develop for the new iOS check out my NowPayments donation link. As it stands for now I am unlikely to be renewing my Apple Developer Licence when it expires in 2025.
Until next time this is
