From WordPress to MovableType to ClassicPress

I’ve had to bounce around with WordPress to MovableType to ClassicPress [and NotMattPress in the future] and let’s talk about the shit show this has been for me trying to get this working properly.

Let’s give some background for this, I did a mass migration away from WordPress due to the unhinged and dangerous actions of Matt Mullenweg the head of the WordPress foundation which makes me fear what would have happened if I stayed reliant on WordPress.

I at first thought of moving back to MovableType the software I used when I was younger, and before I learned how to use WordPress for site management; sadly, many issues came up such as the fact MovableType seemed to have no real documentation after version 5 in English, so I was reliant on ChatGPT translated PDFs of the MoveableType 8.0 manual from Japanese to English.

After bashing my head against the wall and trying my best to make it work I couldn’t get things like my Stat tracking/DDoS monitoring script to work, I couldn’t get OpenGraph/Twitter Cards to show properly and by the end I said screw it and started looking at other options.

I am happy to report that I have been able to find an option that is both got some safety in place so we don’t have another PhotoMatt [Matt Mullenweg’s online handle] level event but also gives me the time to learn new tools for my projects/sites survival encase something happens.

I’ve also been looking at NotMattPress in the future.

I am still working on migrating other projects to other platforms, but for now those will remain shut down until I figure out what I need to bring those back better than ever.

Until next time
